But six years later, the Athletic Club brewer is fighting fit and leading a push to raise money to research the disease that is diagnosed in four Australians every day.
Saturday night saw the culmination of a series of fundraising efforts over the past few months which has seen the MS Athletic Club Brewery team raise almost $12,000.
And as only a brewer can, it was time to party with a few drinks.
“It’s been great to have all this support,” Mr Parry said
“With MS, everyone says its an invisible disease, it’s a chronic disease that affects the central nervous system, early on you don’t see the symptoms on people.
“It’s quite an experience, I’m starting to feel a lot more confident in myself and the future.
“I’ve been getting a lot of encouragement from doctors. Everything’s under control.”
